In one of the many notable programs started by the late WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman, the WBC has presented the widow, son and mother of boxer Oscar Gonzalez who died at the age of 23 following a KO loss to Jesus Galicia last February 1 with a Life Insurance grant of US $50,000.

A talented Mexican featherweight Oscar Gonzalez suffered a brain injury during a 10th-round knockout loss to Galicia on at the Foro Polanco in Mexico City and died two days later as a result of his injuries.

It was nice Gonzalez's family received the $$, but a major body s the wbc should have got it 2 them faster than 5 months...50k's a drop in the bucket 2 an organization as them...

Atleast it's a step forward for our beloved violent sport and like you said, I'm glad the family got monetary support I am sure they needed. Now 5 months is quite long but we are not aware of the procedure and situation behind it all. It's not as easy as simply going to their house and dropping off a check, especially since a death was involved. WBC can be corrupt but people overlook the fact that they are providing and creating rules to better protect the fighters. As well as holding conferences with the rest of the notable boxing organizations and federations in order for a brighter tomorrow that will stimulate the sport as well as provide better opportunities for fighters.

Well that's subjective or else they wouldn't be executed in other countries. Now they have done well for the sport even though they are far from perfect and are also corrupt. They put another rope in the ring to provide more protection for the fighters when they are leaning or being cornered, they lowered the grueling 15 rounds to 12 in order to significantly reduce punishment taken by the fighters, they were trying to help secure a healthcare type of program for fighters since boxing is mostly composed by the blue collar/poverty stricken community and now this. Like I said not all of it is good and it's all subjective but they are helping the fighters out, and for me that is more than enough. Especially when you have fighters and tragedies going hand and hand more and more so as of recently.

No amount is enough to compensate for a life my friend, RIP Gonzalez. However I believe that 50k is more than what Oscar was bringing in on a regular basis and it will aid his family for sometime. 647,500 Pesos is quite a lump some for most Mexican households.

Is a hell of a lot more than what the WBO, IBF & the WBA have ever done. WBC is currupted YES it is but out of all four mojor sanctioning bodies WBC is the only one doing this.... they already hlep boxers from Asia, Africa and here in America (the continent)

I get you. I was just giving you a hard time.

People need to understand that the WBC had no fault in Gonzalez's death (that Im aware of). Therefore I dont think they HAVE TO give his family this money but they still chose to.
