Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach admits that he will be watching with a lot of interest when Saul "Canelo" Alvarez faces Erislandy Lara on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Roach, who trains WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, would like to have his fighter face Canelo at 154-pounds. Top Rank wants to bring Cotto back on December 6th or 13th, at New York's Madison Square Garden or a venue in Las Vegas.

Why?

What's the point of pulling out of a set PPV with Lara? To preserve himself for Cotto? He's probably going to get the Cotto fight no matter the result against Lara. He'll be eating off of 2 PPV's then too.


edit: oh and Canelo isn't making 154 again, they'll make this at a catchweight 155 at the very least

Because they can both easily fight at 160 for Cotto's middleweight belt. I doubt Canelo even wants to fight at 154 anymore
