Comments Thread For: Trinidad Feels He Would Have Beaten Mayweather

Puerto Rican icon Felix "Tito" Trinidad, who this past weekend was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, feels very confident about his ability to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. - if they collided at welterweight or junior middleweight.

Trinidad was asked if there was one active fighter that he would have liked to face in his era, and the fighter Trinidad selected was Mayweather. When Trinidad was a dominating force at welterweight, Mayweather was fighting several weight divisions below.

How could he say anything less. Im not a 100% sure but I know he would be the best welterweight Floyd ever faced in this prime for prime matchup.

Hogwash! He would have gotten beaten worse than what Winky Wright did to him.

        I concur.........

I totally agree. Floyd is a great fighter but he hasn't fought a lot of really skilled fighters like Trinidad. A prime Oscar. Oba Carr. Quartey. Manny. Duran. These fighters know their strengths. Trinidad would've possibly Ko'ed Floyd. If not a KO, he'd win by decision. Floyd's workrate is too low for some of the greats.

Tito went undefeated at welterweight, and during that time he beat up 3 former Olympics gold medalists, the only fighter who has beat that much of Olympics champions. On the other hand, Tito's been beaten with supreme defense and counter punching, Floyd's craft. Interesting fantasy matchup.

I dont think Floyd is a great welterweight, his best weights were super feather and lightweight. But i think he has the skills and speed to completely outbox Trinidad who was pretty much exposed by Oscar and Hopkins.

I'm gonna go with Floyd by UD but 147 was Titos best weight. Then again we all saw Oscar school him and then sit on his lead.

                    Power, speed.....

The power and quickness of Tito would've been too much for Floyd. His stamina was special and you have to have that to defeat Floyd as well. You are crazy if you think Floyd beats a prime Trinidad. I see him in your avatar and that says a lot. Whitaker is the greatest defensive fight of all-time, by the way.
