  • Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Hopes Matt Skelton Provides a Test

Anthony Joshua says it is important not to look too far ahead of himself as he prepares for the seventh contest of his professional career against veteran Matt Skelton.

Joshua returns to the ring to take on 47-year-old Skelton in Liverpool on July 12 following his 83-second demolition of American Matt Legg on the undercard of Froch-Groves II last Saturday.

The former Finchley Amateur Boxing Club fighter admits he would love to challenge for the British title next year but is focusing on his upcoming fight against Bedford's Skelton for the time being.

Skelton old and expired... but Joshua only 6 fights in...so decent opponent for now IMO. Last guy was tagging him for a good 2 seconds before he was obliterated

Skelton will also get flattened in a round or two max.

Apparently, Matt Legg was left with nerve damage in his face after the Joshua fight.

          Yeesh.
Yea, Skelton not really good, but Joshua a couple of fights in. Now, if this was his 20th fight, completely different story

Good match-up in my opinion, Skelton despite his age has fought at a good level for a long career and should be wily enough still as a veteran to ask the kind of questions you want a prospect to get during his development.

Joshua is being smart in my opinion, just look at David Price for what happens when you step up too fast.

Yeah thought something was up the way he was holding his face.
Skelton could be a banana skin opponent.

Skelton's almost 50yrs old, twice the age of Joshua, I usually don't mind the record ranking fights but this isn't very good.

Feel sorry for Skelton that he's still having to compete at this stage of his career.

If he can't find someone durable to give him rounds he's going to have to occasionally carry his opponent for a few rounds just to work on different things. He's not going to learn much knocking these guys over in a round.
