Comments Thread For: Roach: Chavez Trained 5 Days, Almost KO'd Martinez!

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has promised to hand trainer Freddie Roach another loss this coming Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden. Martinez defends his title against former three division world champion Miguel Cotto.

Two years ago, Martinez dominated another Roach fighter, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., for eleven out of twelve rounds. In the twelfth and final round, Chavez rocked, dropped and nearly stopped Martinez.

5 days training showed, Martinez was whupping him. That's nothing to brag about especially after he lost.

              that's believable.

also it was a short left hook on the inside that badly hurt martinez in that 12th round.

There is some truth here. I believe Roach is Cotto's biggest asset in this fight. Roach nailed it when he said he's got Cotto's full attention week after week where he got jack ***** from Chavez Jr.
I think Roach's experience with southpaws and having already fought Martinez is the best thing Cotto has in his preparation for this fight.

That may be partially true but if Julio was that bad in camp he wouldn't have made 160. That's all I gotta say about that.

Yea considering Chavez was a ****ing cruiserweight at fight night I'm surprised he didn't kill Martinez, 190 plus vs a small middleweight.
