  • Comments Thread For: Marquez-Alvarado Double Was Ratings Hit For HBO

Juan Manuel Marquez’ dominant win over Mike Alvarado proved to be a huge boost for his legendary career as well as the network on which it aired.

Both ends of HBO’s May 17 televised doubleheader at The Forum in Inglewood, California played to more than 1 million viewers, according to data provided by Nielsen Media Research. The main event, in which Marquez scored a unanimous decision in a fight that saw both fighters hit the canvas, registered 1.198 million viewers, topping out at 1.322 million viewers.

Great numbers, good for boxing, but man oh man, i wish HBO would stop with these single fights and double headers. I wanted to see Diego magdaleno. Thats my main and only beef with HBO, they pick who they want to hype instead of giving the fans a chance to pick someone to like. Know they have slot times and what not, but they could have shown 3 fights.

You mean those few seconds of Oscar Valdez highlights weren't enough for you?

I would think for a fighter that rarely fights off PPV, the numbers would be better.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Considering how big a name JMM is the numbers aren't all that impressive.

Yes i was expecting JCC numbers or at least 1.5. yet it is just under 1.2, which isnt far from the HBO average
