  • Comments Thread For: Juan Manuel Marquez: Alvarado is a Dangerous Fighter

BELL, CALIF. --- Mike Alvarado was knocked down twice and retired on his stool after the 10th round in his last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov.

Could that fight make it easier for Juan Manuel Marquez to break him down mentally when they meet on Saturday night at The Forum on HBO.

Alvarado is not really known to be good defensively nor resilience against fighters who tends to overwhelm with power. Marquez should still have some fuel in his tank to get the job done.

His resilience and heart do make him dangerous but don't kid yourself Marquez. Juan was talking about Alvarado's speed and movement as if he was some sort of slick boxer the other day lol.

It will be a tough fight due to the fact that Alvarado doesn't go away easily but it should be a field day for the counter punching Marquez.

He's Dangerous ONLY Because You're 40; Alvarado Has Never Beaten Anyone!

That's the tell take right there. Who shows up in Marquez shoes? If this is JMM at 36 years old, he blows Alvarado out. But at 40, two consecutive wars he did not look dominate in, despite his Hail Mary against Pac. Marquez got busted up in both fights. It has to be hard to get up against Alvarado. JMM clearly views Alvarado as a weak link, regardless of what he tells the media, because he wanted no part of Provodnikov who won the title from train wrecking Alvarado, and Marquez' excuse avoiding Provo was lame: "I already had that title". SO! Win it a second time; who wouldn't want that? And so choosing a fight with the guy Provo destroyed accomplishes what? No belt, a b/c level fighter, you think is no threat. Marquez thought Bradley was a pushover and he guessed wrong on that. He could guess wrong again at 40, with a game Alvarado who has nothing to lose.

Alvarado foes move somewhat good, he did it in rios rematch, with marquez age even little movement will be enough and ive said this before alvardo is bigger and stronger, i really think hell win, age has caught up to marquez

Bradley didn't bust up JMM lol Bradley couldn't bust up a 12 year old girl,Marquez lost a close decision in which he took very little to no damage.

If Marquez wanted a little more dangerous fight, he should've fought Provodnikov.

Alvarado is still a dangerous fighter, both are at this stage of jmm career, fact is the guy will be 41 soon and he just looks very slow now,he cant do anything about that anymore,it's not the same being 25 to being 40,he can tell the fans he feels great and in the best shape of his life(a lot of fighters say that) but he's still 40 and slower now, alvarado and provodnikov are younger, bigger, stronger and Alvarado knows this is a big fight for him, after losing to provodnikov he cant afford another one and he knows beating marquez because of the name it will probably lead to another title shot, alvarado will be just as motivated to beat marquez,an old marquez at that and a lot smaller than him and slower, marquez isn't provodnikov,he doesn't fight with that pressure or that strength, the shots marquez lands on Alvarado wont do the damage that the ones provodnikov landed

That's the same thing I would tell Pacquiao.

Initially, I figured Marquez' style could give Alvarado problems, but on second thought Alvarado's size could play a major role in his strategy.
