  • Comments Thread For: Mike Alvarado's Dedication Grew After Provodnikov Loss

BELL, CALIF. --- Mike Alvarado said the biggest thing he learned coming off the loss to Ruslan Provodnikov had to do with his dedication to the sport.

"My dedication, dedication to what made me in that ring," Alvarado said at Wednesday's open workout at Azteca Boxing Club. "I wasn't dedicated as much as I should have been. I was still training hard and everything, but mentally more dedicated into my training, you know, deeper, pushing myself that extra mile in those rounds in the strength and conditioning drills, you know, everything." Marquez should have chosen Provodnikov to end his career. Losing to Alvarado is worse.

Meh, how many times have we heard these type of statements (from most fighters I mean)?

Plus, aside from heart, he is a mediocre fighter. His boxing is just weak, his movement is stiff and robotic, and his speed / reflexes are subpar. I believe his best chance in this fight will be to pressure Marquez ala Katsidis and get Marquez into a bloody war. He will have to endure a grueling fight if he wants to beat Marquez, there is no other way IMHO.

I don't see Alvarado improving a lot by getting into better shape, though that never hurts. Better technique would help much more, as Provo just bull rushed him and beat him down. Better footwork, slipping and ducking, jab better. Marquez is old, but so is the devil.

This guy talks too much and is inconsistent. And now we hear he parties too much. 3 strikes. Out within 7 if he pushes JMM.

This is a make or break fight for both fighters.
