Comments Thread For: Marquez on Alvarado: I'll Do My Talking in The Ring

BELL, CALIF. --- Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado posed for photos together inside the ring at Wednesday's open workout at Azteca Boxing Club.

There didn't seem to be any hostility or animosity between the two fighters, who will meet on Saturday at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on HBO. But earlier in the afternoon Alvarado told a group of reporters that he planned to retire Marquez from boxing on Saturday night.

A 40 Yr Old Slow, Smaller, Drug Tested Counter Puncher vs A Bigger B/C Level Nobody

This fight is intriguing to see play out because even the experts here only have a guess for the outcome.

    Marquez SHOULD win because:

His level of competition, and career experience.
    Alvarado has beaten nobody credible.
Alvarado just got a real beatdown at home by Provo.

    Marquez COULD lose because:

JMM is 40, and could get old all in one night.
    Drug tested, slower, smaller, counterpuncher.
Alvarado got away from home to train in California.
Alvarado is bigger, stronger and more youthful.

Alvarado has nothing to lose, everything to gain, and we have no idea which Marquez shows up at 40 years old. This could be a bad night for JMM and he may never get to Pacquiao for that belt at 147 he says he needs. Alvarado has beaten nobody but don't be surprised if he pulls off an upset over Marquez.

And Let's Remember Marquez Was Taking A Beating With Pacquiao & Slow With Bradley

Marquez is no Bernard Hopkins turning back Father Time. Marquez has had a lot of wars, he's been busted up, dropped several times. It only takes one night to get old. He looked smaller, slower, and 40 years old against Bradley with drug testing in place. He wasn't the same beefed up guy that just fought Manny with no drug testing in place, YET was behind on all scorecards, busted up, out of gas in 5 rounds, just knocked down in the 5th before he landed his Hail Mary in the 6th, to get out alive. Marquez has not looked good in those two high profile fights, and I would guess Alvarado could be tough to get up for; he clearly want Alvarado and not Provo for good reason. Marquez is not the same fighter that Provo was coming forward, throwing hammers, imposing his will. So I would expect a more lively, aggressive Alvarado. Fans of Marquez will talk about him like he's still 35, but he's not; he's 40!

you do your talking outside the ring after the fight, crying robbery along with your big daddy in diapers , Nancho..
really hope alvarado beats JMM up big time..sick and tired of this guy..lost his legacy by crying robbery by default after every loss..Bradly out boxed him beautifully , then JMM ran away from the ring crying

I got mad respect for Marquez. I don't think he belongs in the WW division (1-4 in WW fights) but he's a warrior. However, I want to see Alvarado win this fight just so I can see Bob Arum trying to sell everyone on Pacquiao vs. Alvarado. He had the nerve to complain about Maidaina, so it would be karma for him to try to sell a Manny/Alvarado fight as competitive.

Unless you lose, then we'll never hear the end of it.

Yeah, JMM is exciting and doesnt hug all night like Hopkins. That way you can fight in your 60s, way to go, Hopkins.
