Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26KOs), the middleweight champion of the World Boxing Association, was ordered to start negotiations for his next mandatory fight with Jarrod Fletcher. Fletcher (18-1, 10KOs), ranking second in the division, is the highest ranked available contender to face Golovkin. The negotiations period will consist of 30 days, starting on May 13. If no agreement is reached, or neither side is willing to negotiate during this time, the fight will be sent to a purse bid.
