Comments Thread For: Arum: Broner is Mediocre, Not Competitive With Pacquiao

Even if promotional squabbles and premium-cable battles weren’t obvious obstacles, Bob Arum doesn’t think boxing consumers would be overly interested in the Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner bout Broner publicly discussed last week.

“As far as Broner is concerned, let’s be honest about Broner,” Arum told BoxingScene.com. “There’s all this nonsense and all this media attention that he got. The kid is a mediocre fighter. I mean, he got exposed by Maidana. And then in his last fight against Molina, a guy who can’t fight and hadn’t fought for over a year, he struggled with the guy. So, I mean, he can call out Manny and so forth. The point is, he’s not competitive with a Pacquiao.”

55 - 45 Pacquiao. I thought Manny still looked deadly in the last Marquez fight before he got dusted off. The Bradley fight showed me that he lays on the inside too long now, and doesn't use that little spin out escape that he and Freddie love to show off for the cameras. Broner on the other hand, can't seem to get away from shots on the inside since he's so flat footed (and possibly just lazy)... very competitive fight on paper.

Well I don't think Broner wins vs Pac but I think its a better fight than rios and alverado. rios was coming off of a loss and alverado was just beat as well. enough of this mess.

              Marcos Maidana > Rustico Torrecampo.

Broner wasn't ''exposed'' vs Maidana, he finished the fight on his feet with a broken jaw and prior to the second knock down he was putting rounds in the bank.

Broner vs Pacquiao is more intriguing than all the recycled opponents Arum can throw at Manny right now, Marquez will not do a 5th fight (thank god), Alvarado and Rios are nobodies, Provodnikov says he won't fight him, and a 3rd Bradley fight would sell worst on PPV than the second one, Pacquiao is out of fresh opponents that will spark the public's interest, Broner would definitely help Pacquiao make his biggest PPV sales ever, one thing he knows how to do is sell a fight and he already started by calling him out.

Pacquiao's future looks poor if he remains at Top Rank. Floyd is being asked to take out all the young lions (Maidana, Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Khan, Golovkin, ..) while people are content with Manny and his worthless rematches marathons, I'm starting to think Manny stays with Arum to avoid the burden of having to take on this young batch of boxers on the scene, it's safer at Top Rank for Poochiao.

Bob Arum spitting the cold hard facts. Broner is a solid bum, he really has no place in a ring with Manny Pacquiao.

Funny he's not even remotely intrigued. Pac Broner would do bigger numbers than anything he can do in house at the moment. Yes, I believe Pac Broner would outdo Pac Marquez which is just an absurdly pathetic choice
