Comments Thread For: Provodnikov Now Open To Possible Pacquiao Fight

After eight months of inactivity, Ruslan Provodnikov will finally have the opportunity to defend the WBO junior welterweight title that he won in October against Mike Alvarado. He faces Chris Aligieri on June 14th in Brooklyn, NY in a HBO televised main event.

The fighter known as the "Siberian Rocky" was in the running to face Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez but after they chose different opponents, he had to settle for Aligieri. Provodnikov admits that he was disappointed he didn't get a bigger fight after his career defining victory over Mike Alvarado, but insists he won't overlook Aligieri and he feels his time away from the ring may have benefited him.

Conflict isn't even that big of an issue. Roach barely trains Provo, Marvin Zamudio trains Ruslan more..... only conflict is Filipino people will feel like Marvin betrayed pac or some b.s like that

conflict was never the issue. If bob thinks Manny is leaving, he has him fight Provodnikov because of the potential punishment factor. If he thinks he's staying, JMM/Alvarado "winner".

I think a manny v provodnikov fight would be great, especially now that Manny has been boxing more.

I like this fight. Reminds me of Mayweather vs Maidana. Ruslan is a tough fighter that's going to force Manny to work all 12 rounds. Although he will be outclassed at times it still makes for an exciting watch on TV.

People were raving about it for Cotto and some for Provo because they were both Roach fighters

Also Provo was the leading candidate before Bradley agreed to the rematch, they were close to signing before Bradley came up

How? How does it remind you of Mayweather Maidana?
Mayweather vs Maidana will in all likelihood be a one sided affair where Mayweather will likely potshot and box his way to a UD.

Pacquiao vs Provodnikov is a fireworks fight.

He stood his ground lately, but he won't with Maidana. Maidana throws awkwardly, and carries so much power behind those punches.
Mayweather will be moving for at least the first 8 rounds of the fight, pot shots, one or two punches and moving along.

It will be nothing like any fight Pacquiao has fought in. Pacquiao isn't afraid to engage, isn't afraid to take a few shots, and Pacquiao throws in combinations.

So again returning to the original argument, how will a potential Provodnikov vs Pacquiao fight be exactly like Maidana vs Mayweather?
