Comments Thread For: Silvio Branco Announces Retirement From Boxing

Silvio Branco has announced his retirement. The 47-year old Italian goes out at 63-11-3 in a career that began at middleweight back in 1988 and finished at cruiser weight26 years later after an amazing career. Branco held the WBU (the original British based organization that for a few years in the 90´s had some credibility) super middleweight title and the WBA light heavyweight crown, challenged Sven Ottke for the IBF super middleweight title and was always close to a title shot. His last world title fight came against WBC lightheavy titleholder Jean Pascal in 2009. Branco´s last fight was this past summer when he won the WBC silver title by stopping Juho Haapoja.

Very few men in boxing had the physical quality of SILVIO,his body was amazing at 22y when he started his pro carreer and it was almost better at 47y....unbealivable!!! He dedicated his life to boxing very seriously, eating well, living clean,etc....(some old legal problems in 2002)!
With that physical he could do more IMO.
If you watch the first fight with Giacobbe Fragomeni for WBC Silver cruiserweight title in March 2012 you will see one of the best cruiserweight fight ever, the men WERE BOTH OVER FORTY YEARS OLD...AMAZING WAR FOR 12 ROUNDS!!!The rematch is a shame in boxing history because THAT is the only fight in history where at the end the verdict wasn't read to preserve public order inside the forum!!!
He fought a lot of good fighters indead:
Richie Woodhall,Rodney Toney,Thomas Tate,Verno Phillips,Glen Johnson,Robin Reid,Sven Ottke,Medhi Sahnoune,Fabrice Tiozzo,Manny Siaca,Stipe Drews,Jean Pascal,Giacobbe Fragomeni,he was training at 47y to fight the tough/dangerous RAKHIM CHAKKIEV and honestly at this age also if he is in great shape and he knows how to boxe i believe the russian would have been too strong and dangerous for SILVIO. I wish him a good retirment!!! FORZA IL BARBARO !!!

Good career, turned pro in 1988 and still at world level in 2013.
