  • Comments Thread For: Shawn Porter Describes Stoppage of Paulie Malignaggi

Shawn Porter’s statement Saturday night in Washington, D.C., was as emphatic as it was surprising.

The 26-year-old welterweight world titleholder from Akron, Ohio, stopped Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KOs) in the fourth round, and a clash that many pegged would be competitive was definitively one-sided.

Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs), who according to Showtime landed 50 percent of his power shots against a foe renowned for his defense, described how he was able to accomplish the feat in a postfight interview with Jim Gray.

Nice KO Shawn. I'm happy for you. Stay humble.

Hopefully malignaggi would go away for good. Or maybe he'd again mention Pacquiao again to be relevant.

Porter's a good dude. Sadly though, Paulie getting KO'd just means more face time as a commentator, although weighing the two, I guess he's still a better commentator than boxer.

I thought Paulie was really going to test Porter. Porter passed the test with an "A"!

Shawn Porter looked outstanding last night, I noticed he used his left elbow a lot when in close to lift Paulie's chin up and try to land the big right hand. I was very surprised the ref let that go repeatedly, but none the less that is boxing, and if you get away with it, its fair game. He looked like a middleweight compared to Paulie, I would not be surprised to see him move up in the near future, the guy is huge for a WW.

As for Floyd fighting him, I doubt it very seriously as he has a history of avoiding big punchers in their prime. I would love to see Porter vs Thurman, I think that would be a hell of a fight. Cong**** to Shawn on a great title defense!

Forgot in my assessment od Pauli - He does not bode well with strong maulers! Hatton / Cotto / Porter - Paulie must really have pillows in his gloves because he could not keep porter off him. I have watched Paulie's career since his espn days, and I am glad he made a lot of $ and I think he is a very god commentator, hope his is not injured and can continue with the showtime gig - this really puts into perspective the Adrien Broner fight, and that his bearded ass needs to stay at 140, as far as Gacia moving up - nope - he will get hurt, because he is so big at 140 his mistakes he can overcome, but at 147 he will get hurt, this is why his old man is so hesitant on moving him up - imagine Herrera as a 147pounder he would have really put one on Garcia! who knows...

Paulie was clinching him so he was trying to use his forearm to create separation and create room to punch.

I loved seeing a fighter get strong in the clinch and work his way out of it. Too many fighters fold and let the ref break them up.

If anyone watch this last night and did instantaneously get put on notice about this guy is asleep. This guy Porter is a definite problem.. He also very smart and understands what he has to do. This guy neck is also crazy.. Very strong. Mayweather has a lot of cleaning up to do and it's a lot of young monsters. Forget the Pacquaio fight.. This guy Porter is a much better challenge and he has a boxing brain.
