Comments Thread For: Provodnikov-Algieri Clash Heading To Barclays Center

BoxingScene.com has been advised that WBO junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) vs. Chris Algieri (19-0, 8KOs), scheduled for June 14th, is shifting to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The HBO televised event was previously targeted for the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

The Barclays has an exclusive contract with Golden Boy Promotions, who work with HBOs rival Showtime. BoxingScene was told that Barclays reached out to Golden Boy, who gave them the thumbs up to host that event. Neither Provon***ov or Algieri are promoted by Golden Boy's main business rival, Top Rank.

Anyone know anything about Algieri,, looking at his record, he seems not to have much power, but can he box.. Ruslan will have trouble with a tricky mover,, can ALgieri fight like that?

Seems like the real "noise" out of the story is the fight is taking place in Brooklyn. Don't get it rios and ruslan wanted the fight but some how it goes to Algieri strange.

I saw Algeri's last fight that he headlined ESPN FNFs. He has a decent lil skill set and he moves. But he's a guy that picked up boxing late, so he's not real fluid and looks almost robotic. You can almost see him thinking about every single moves he makes. Nothing is instinctual. Almost like Jermain Taylor was. IMO, he's in way over his head his head here. He's one of these lil local stars. He's from Huntington, NY. Not sure how far that is away from Brooklyn. But I'm sure he'll have a good following there. So the kid may fight a lil over his head. Plus, he doesn't know how to lose, so he has that going for him. But to me, he's not skilled and fluid enough to make Provo miss consistantly. And he doesn't hit hard enough to keep Provo off him. So to me, its a matter of when. If he has a solid beard, he may make it to the later rounds. If not, I expect to see him blown out in three or less.

Algieri was on Friday Night Fights a few weeks back. He's an ok boxer who can't punch. Easy win for Provodnikov.

Interesting that Golden Boy gave the ok for this to be at Barclays. They don't cooperate with other promoters doe.

Provodnikov will win the fight I believe. If he can get a devastating knockout in the process, the more the merrier. Personally I think Mayweather could face Provodnikov in September. He's trained by Roach, he has great punching power, a good name and it's funny that Mayweather/Provo threads are popping up, they are bumping into each other in Las Vegas and now Golden Boy lets Provo move the match to Barclays Center. Quite interesting I think.

Nah just Top Rank. But I think Sho is trying to court Andrade. Ton of 154 matchups to be made with him in the picture. They could do a 154 super 6.

                  Alvarez
                  Lara
                  Andrade
                  Charlo
                  Molina?
                  Trout, rosado...Take your pick...
