  • Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao: One Step Closer to the Last Hurrah

By Cliff Rold - Fifteen years is a long time in life. It’s a hell of a long time in boxing.

December 4, 1998 was over fifteen years ago.

That was the night a raw power puncher came from behind to win the WBC and lineal Flyweight crown in Thailand. That’s how long Manny Pacquiao has been a part of boxing’s title conversation. This Saturday night, he will attempt to regain the WBO Welterweight belt he lost to Timothy Bradley in 2012. There are reasons to think he will and reasons to think he won’t.

Whatever the result, there is no avoiding the inevitable. The last hurrah is close at hand. At 35 years of age, he’s had a style that adds miles to the body. Pacquiao has always been hit less than it looks like; offensive gems that last always have better defense than credited for. He still gets hit more than fighters whose defense stands out first.

Of course, this being boxing, the last hurrah doesn’t necessarily mean the end of a career. Too many have continued long past their last hurrah to think that.

And we won’t know what really was the last hurrah until the whole story is written. History dictates at least that much. Eventually, all of the great ones stop being great. We watch as the end grown near with a wonder of when that last truly great night will be. [Click Here To Read More]

One of the better pieces written by BoxingScene cats, but all you do by highlighting Durans career is make Manny and Floyd seem less impressive, to be brutally, but accurately honest.

Personally, I think Manny is over the hill at this point, Not tremendously, but not prime, similar to the DLH that Floyd barely sc****d by.

Manny will be remembered as a great, sure. An inspiring individual, and an icon.

Floyd still beats any version of him though. Yes, it has to be said. It adds context to Mannys greatness.

One thing people can't deny is that Manny has given and shared with us fans one hell of a career that was both entertaining and action packed. I personally think Tim will win this Saturday but even still, Bradley's career, if they were pitted in the same situation and time frame, is nowhere as close to the competition Manny is fighting. Through all of the struggle and celebrity, Pacquiao has truly been a man of honor and a symbol of strength.

Pacquiao will prove to everyone he is not done yet. We know he is already past his prime. Thanks for his many epic fights and wars. Pac beat Bradley easily the first time and was looking really good against Marquez 4 until he free delivered his chin to Marquez monstrous punch. Some people assumed he is done right after that brutal ko but then Pac gave another one sided beating to a tough hard puching Rios while adding another dimensions to his skills. Pac will give another spectacular beating on Bradley but this time in full 3 minutes in every round.

Pacman is past his prime, I haven't seen him hurt a fighter with a punch in years. But I still enjoy watching him fight...... Who doesn't??

Don't really want to turn in it into a floyd vs manny but seriously it's really beyond me how people think floyd beats manny, manny's style is just an absolute nightmare for floyd. But enough on that.

I think Pacquiao will retire sept 2015, just like floyd will. I think he will beat bradley, knock out marquez in September/November ( marquez is just too old right now) and then have a couple of fights against floyd in 2015 and both retire
