  • Comments Thread For: Nobuo Nashiro Retires From Boxing, Becomes Coach

OSAKA – Kinki University said Thursday that former WBA super flyweight champion Nobuo Nashiro (19-6-1, 13KOs) has hung up his gloves and he has become head coach of the college’s boxing club that he used to belong to.

Nashiro, 32, became world champion in July 2006 in only his eighth professional fight, at the time matching the shortest time in which a Japanese boxer has claimed a world title since his debut.

He lost on a unanimous decision to former champion Alexander Munoz of Venezuela in his second defense of the title the following year.

I first read it as Nobuhiro Ishida.

Then again, didn't he retire as well?

No he announced that he's jumping up to heavyweight to win some titles there before he retires, but I believe he means specifically the Japanese titles. He just had his open sparring to get licensed and I hear he didn't look half bad. I've seen pics of him and he's somehow ripped at heavyweight already.
