Comments Thread For: Belmontes: I Beat Omar Figueroa 5 Times in Amateurs

LOS ANGELES - On Saturday, April 26, Omar "Panterita" Figueroa Jr. defends his WBC Lightweight World Championship against fellow Texan Jerry "The Corpus Christi Kid" Belmontes as part of a Showtime televised tripleheader from the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

"I am especially excited about this fight because I have wanted to get payback against Belmontes for longer than a decade," said Figueroa. "I fought him in the amateurs and he always beat me because I was always shorter than him. Now I am taller, stronger and bigger than him and I am looking to beat him the way he beat me in the amateurs."

Figueroa isn't very good and what if he re injures his hand in the fight?

Figueroa can easily beaten if you box him and take his power. Someone like Abril would school him.

Not saying Belmontes will win but you have to factor some of this stuff in.

Five wins over a guy in the amateurs means a big mental edge over him. And what if Figueroa hurts his hand(s) again?

so you're fine with this fight bcuz you want to see your poster child omar figueroa get revenge?? this is still a BS fight. Omar needs to fight ranked guys in his own division. stop being the PRE-TROUT CANELO

Well that makes things kind of interesting. I'd say he has the mental edge over Figueroa.

belmontes can frustrate omar but Belmontes is really going to have to box his ears off. he won't be able to stand and try to make it a brawl like he did against fransico vargas.

jerry isn't a bad fighter don't get me wrong but he's not a lightweight so in the end th bigger guy will finally catch up to Belmontes and probably stop him late by TKO

I guess the mental aspect of it may affect Omar but I doubt it'll make any drastic difference as the Pro game is very different.
