Comments Thread For: Billy Graham Reflects Back on The Late Mickey Duff

Promoter, matchmaker, manager and sometime cornerman Mickey Duff has died today aged 84. The colourful British boxing figure was born in 1929 as Monek Prager in Kraków, Poland. His ***ish family immigrated to England in the 1930s during the rise of the **** Party.

Duff turned professional at 15, circumventing the Board’s laws in the process, only to retire four years later with a 33-8-3 (4) record. After working in sales, he hooked up with promoters Jarvis Astaire and Mike Barrett plus trainer Terry Lawless to form a boxing powerhouse before forging a long-term, exclusive relationship with the BBC. Great article paying respect to a brilliant man in the sport. I briefly met Mickey back in the 80s, may have been at the Tubbs/Witherspoon title fight in Atlanta. All the boxing people knew him, spoke with him, asked his advice. R.I.P. Mr. Duff. Thanx for all you gave to boxing.

Mickey Duff was the perfect example of how immigrants should always be integrated into the society of whatever country they enter. He was born Polish but nobody was more a Londoner than Mickey. Anybody meeting him would never have thought for a second he was anything else. RIP.
