  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather-Maidana: Mares-Miura, Love-Periban Talks

Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, confirms that negotiations are ongoing for a super featherweight title bout between WBC champion Takashi Miura (27-2-1, 20KOs) of Japan and three division king Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) of Mexico.

If a deal is reached, the fight would land on May 3rd, as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana Showtime pay-per-view undercard, likely taking place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Periban vs. Love is a trash fight that no one cares about, but Mayweather always has one spot on his undercards reserved for his trash stable so we'll have to deal with it.

Mares vs. Miura should be a war. Sergio Thompson, although much bigger than Mares, gave Miura a pretty good fight. Regardless of the size difference, I think Mares is capable of pulling off the upset. Mares just needs to fight exactly the way he fought Ponce De Leon.

I do, Periban is unlucky not to be current WBC world champion. He'll bring it to J'Leon.

Personally I think Periban vs. Bika and Periban vs. Jack were draws, but I could understand if someone scored those fights for Periban by a point or two. Unless Periban K.O.s Love he probably won't get a fair shake. I don't mind Periban, it just sucks that we have to watch Mayweather's trash stable take up space on his undercards.

Haha, yeah, it's pretty sad if Mickey Bey is the best fighter in any stable.

what can you expect... if its got broner-khan on it im definitely watching this fight. i think we may be setting the bar too high following "the one". after all, i will be buying the pac and cotto fights and i could give a sht less whos fighting on the undercard .

Mayweather has a limited amount of fights left he should be going all out with the undecards thus producing him good money. Just when you get a sigh of relief that it isn't rubber neck Khan now we have to deal with the mediocre ESPN fights sucking away the PPV flavor.
