  • Comments Thread For: Macklin Frustrated: I've Agreed To Felix Sturm's Terms

New York, NY - Top-rated middleweight contender Matthew Macklin is getting a bit tired and frustrated, to say the least, on waiting to hear what direction IBF middleweight champion Felix Sturm is heading for his next bout. Macklin and Sturm's well documented and publicized history dates back to their first bout, which took place in Sturm's home country of Germany in 2011. The bout was Macklin's first world title opportunity and the Irishman made the most of it. Macklin took the fight right to the hometown hero Sturm, who was defending his title for the 10th consecutive time. It was a grueling battle, with Macklin seemingly having the clear advantage after the 12-round championship bout. CompuBox had Macklin averaging 92 punches thrown per round, doubling Sturm's output. Macklin also landed 127 more punches and outlanded Sturm in 11 of the 12 rounds. Unfortunately though, two of the three judges didn't see the fight that way, awarding Sturm a split decision and leaving Macklin longing for another shot at the champ. [Click Here To Read More]

This guy needs to be happy that he's getting ANOTHER title shot! Sergio knocked him out, Golovkin destroyed him and Sturm almost knocked him out in the last rd and that counts for like 4 rds in Germany for Sturm. So he wasn't exactly robbed in that fight. Lol

Just exactly why is this guy even getting another title shot? Especially after the GGG showing.

I just want Sturm to disappear. Hopefully Macklin wins then we get a Quillen fight.

My guess is because Sturm doesn't like to fight top guys. Also this division seems to have the top 2-3 guys (Sergio, GGG and maybe Quillin) and then a pretty big step down in class for the rest of the division. So even though he lost his title fights and the GGG one pretty badly, he's sadly still a contender in this division
The options are just kind of slim. IMO Gaele should get the fight, he's slightly better than the rest of the bunch but he just fought and is prob waiting on GGG for the summer. He could fight Murray but like Macklin, his biggest "win" was almost beating Martinez. Andy Lee is on the same level but he's likely to get a GGG fight in April

Getting KTFO by GGG in 3 rounds at least means you can last 3 rounds with GGG. Sturm wouldn't.
