Comments Thread For: Kovalev Still Confident Adonis Stevenson Will Fight Him

Adonis Stevenson’s resistance thus far hasn’t discouraged Sergey Kovalev from thinking they’ll fight sometime later this year.

Russia’s Kovalev said on a conference call Thursday to promote his March 29 fight against American Cedric Agnew that he believes public pressure eventually will lead to a meeting between the light heavyweight champions.

I was watching ESPN on demand last night. Classic boxing. They put on the fight where Tyson first won the WBC title against Trevor Berbick. Before the bout began, they showed a World Championship Boxing tree, where all top ranked fighters faced each other - titlists included. The winner, in the end, would be crowned World Champion. These people fought everyone. It didn't matter who the opponent was, that who they had to fight. This is missing in boxing right now. I think as a champion, you have an obligation to fight another champion in your weight class.

This is where I wish the networks would put their foot down.
They want Stevenson/Kovalev, the fans want Stevenson/Kovalev, and I'm sure the promoters want the fight, so why write another check for Stevenson and Kovalev to fight bums, or worse risk losing.

If they want to take on one more fight before their showdown that's fine, but it shouldn't be on HBO, and HBO should not have to pay for that.

Adonis should not be afraid of Kovalev... Eventually, Kovalev admitted that he had problems in dealing with Boone...

I agree, but I think it needs to be like years ago when there was only ONE champ for each division. I know it would be less money and fighters waited a long time to get a shot.

In the end there can be only ONE

Kovalev-Stevenson can be a FOTY for sure
want Hopkins to beat Shumenov and quit, stay away from these guys
since Ward refuses to go up and gt in the mix, these guys need to fight
boxing needs more fights and less events
no reason for this not to happen within a yr

Every boxer in the world who fights at 175 should be afraid of Kovalev.
Sergei Kovalev is the heir apparent.
