Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Trainer Doubts Martinez Will Face Them in 2014

Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, has serious doubts that WBC champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) will face them in 2014 - even if the Argentine fighter defeats Miguel Cotto on June 7th. Golovkin will return on April 26th at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden, likely against Andy Lee.

Martinez might be done with boxing after the Cotto fight.

Martinez said he'd honor his HBO contract

win or lose against Cotto, Sergio Martinez will still have 1 fight left on his HBO contract.

if Golovkin fights Lee and Kirkland, people will demand the fight and they might even be able to have it on PPV. Martinez has said he's open to fighting Golovkin. he even said he views Golovkin as being where he has at when people where avoiding him and he had to work his way up.

Martinez vs Golovkin unification will probably take place in November or December this year. I doubt HBO will have Martinez for any other fight and if the GGG hypes build even more I doubt Martinez will pass up another PPV date.

remember Martinez can't fight Mayweather or Canelo while he's under contract with HBO

No Matter What Happens With Cotto, Sergio Will NEVER Fight GGG

Cotto beats Sergio anyway, but regardless, Sergio couldn't take Chavez Jr's punches; he sure as hell can't take GGG's punch OR the constant aggression. Sergio fans will talk about the great Boxer, great technician Sergio is, but like Amir Khan fans, you're talking about your guy at his best 5, 6 years ago... NOT Today! The dude is closing in on 40. He's been hurt one way shape or form in about the last 4 straight fights he's had, and Cotto wanted this fight.... He doesn't like Sergio. He'll never climb in the ring with Gennady at this age ever, so forget the thought. AND neither will No Ballz Mayweather.

You say you know Sergio won't fight you. You claim Quillin won't fight you. You claim none of the top guys want to fight you.................move up, simple as that.

Look at how a high version of Chavez abused him violently lol. Imagine what Golovkin would do to this coward.

HBO won't buy that fight. plus the WBC would much rather want a cut of Martinez vs Golovkin, a lot more money in sanctioning fees

if Martinez wins he'll keep his WBC strap and if GGG wins the WBC will probably strip him and let Canelo have it.

the way the GGG hype is going Martinez Golovkin will be a mega fight. K2, DiBella and HBO did a great job building this fight. all side have invested a lot to make it happen.

I expect it to be PPV

Martinez just has to beat Cotto, not exactly easy but very doable

Yea but he'll probably fight him off HBO later this year so we wont see him fight Golovkin in 2014

It would just be awesome if somebody cut your breakline tonight. And once you on the interstate in the morning, got behind an 18 wheeler, couldn't slow down, and drove right up that truck going about 70 and it sliced your head clean off your f.uckin' shoulders. The world would be a better place.
