Maksim Bursak lost to Jarrod Fletcher on Saturday night in Monte Carlo in a fight for the WBA International middleweight title and is now stripped of the EBU title. The highest available contenders will now compete for the vacant title. Domenico Spada was the official challenger but he has withdrawn to fight for the WBC interim-title against Marco Antonio Rubio in April.

Sounds strange to be stripped of a title you did not lose in the ring. Especially when you are the European champ and lose to an Australian fighter.

No it is not strange. They do this to all European champions and number 1 contenders get demoted down the ranks after losing. I agree with it why parade and baby feed a so call champion when he has lost to a fringe contender they do not want to lose any credibility whatsoever and i do not blame them. Fletcher is a fringe contender at world level at best, i still can remember Billy Joe Saunders stopping Fletcher inside 2 rounds, and that was a very green Saunders.

They were right to take the title away for tormenting the audience with such a s*itty fight.. I even put a few euros on Fletcher and still couldnīt be bothered to watch the whole 12 rounds.
