Comments Thread For: W. Klitschko Eyes Stiverne-Arreola Winner in The U.S.

While WBO/IBO/IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is set to fight against WBO mandatory Alex Leapai on April 26 in in Oberhausen, Germany - he already has future goals in mind. Klitschko would like to return to the United States in a major fight - and feels the winner of the rematch between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne would be the perfect opponent.

Arreola and Stiverne will battle for the vacant WBC title, which Wladimir's older brother Vitali Klitschko recently vacated to focus on his political career. Wladimir has not fought in the United States since February of 2008, when he won a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Sultan Ibragimov at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

A huge unification event in the US in either Vegas or NY, with a long reigning undisputed champ and a legitimate contender from North America - what more could you ask for? And definitely fair to say this won't be another Ibragimov snooze-fest...

I don't think US television would even think of airing Wlad vs. either of those guys.

      Edit for unintended double negative.

America will be waiting at least 2-3 more years for a HW champ.

Wlad will be hoping Arreola wins, as the Mexican American would attract a lot of hispanic fans for a U.S.-based fight.

No matter who wins the Stiverne-Arreola, neither of these fatties will hold the belt for very long. Enjoy your fifteen minutes of champion status while it lasts.

So....why do Arreola and Stiverne get to fight for the WBC title first? I get they are probably #1 and #2 on the WBC rankings, but...um...didn't they just fight? This is bull****. Who wants to see the same fight again? And this time for the world title?

No thanks. I'd rather watch Wilder vs the winner
