Comments Thread For: Cornelius White: I Learned From Kovalev KO Loss

Cornelius White’s loss to Sergey Kovalev wasn’t the first time he was knocked out, but that defeat taught him a crucial lesson.

“That you never go in underestimating someone's power,” White said Thursday on an ESPN.com chat promoting his bout against Thomas Williams Jr. on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. “They could be a strong guy or a weak guy, you don't underestimate. You never underestimate your opponent.” [Click Here To Read More]

"His power is unreal," ..."I've never felt that power before." Cornelius White

Rare to hear this kind of honesty. So used to men holding their cards close to their chests. By this admission I can hear the sweat beads pounding the floor as they drip off of Stevenson's brow.

White is a good fighter and comes across as a nice guy too, despite a rough upbringing.

A lotta folk seriously underated Cornelius going into the Kovalev fight, and wrote him off as a meh sorta win, but Sergei just is what he is.

This is just one of a number of good fights I'm looking forward to this w/e (provided I can keep my lazy ass awake til 4 or 5 am two days on the bounce) - I haven't really seen anything of the kid he's fighting but I'll take the time to tube a coupla fights today.

Says something for Kovalev that White describes his power in those kinda terms - but I remember that first round where Sergeis punches were literally knocking Cornelius sidewards in the first seconds.

Karen Avetisyan is not available for comment, but anyone else claiming such a thing would simultaneously be acknowledging their own mandibular vulnerability.
