  • Comments Thread For: Merchant Has Mixed Feelings on Mikey Garcia's Fast Track

By Mitch Abramson - Larry Merchant’s unmistakable shock of white hair was hard to miss on Tuesday, a surprising and welcoming sight on an otherwise snowy day in Manhattan.
But what in God’s name was Merchant doing at the Kingsway Gym, a-hard-to-find boxing hub located up a flight of stairs on a side street? It was dreadful outside, snow blanketing the streets. Had he taken a wrong turn, taken an uptown train instead of a downtown one?

Larry is a international Top Rank spy is what he is. He's out there in the snow gathering info to use against any fighter so him, Max and Jim can start the hate train going. Before you know it Mickey won't be the fighter they think he should be, he'll start understanding that in order to stay in this business you have to preserve yourself and take less punishment something HBO frowns upon. .....

I never cared 4 Merchant's "style", sounds like he's reading a newspaper...he should have stayed w/his 2 phny buddies@ hbo; that's why I watch hbo on 51i, in Spanish...Mikey is Mikey, let him b, he's developing wonderfully ad in 2 more years, @ the top of the heap, IMO...

I'm not sure where all the criticism towards Merchant is coming from,to me he made a very insightful and unbiased critique of Mikey Garcia and was very careful not to predict success or failure.

          Mikey vs Manny

Manny would ruin his career. Stay away. He will hit the canvas more than once and be forced to stay there.

Larry Merchant is a boxing authority. He's a legend to be. Boxing is fortunate to have Larry Merchant.
