Comments Thread For: Roy Jones Jr. Wants Boxing's Cold War To Come To an End

Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. wants the "cold war" in boxing to come to an end. The two biggest promoters in boxing, Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank, have not co-promoted any events together in several years. Top Rank is exclusively aligned with HBO, while Golden Boy is fully on board with network rival Showtime. Because of the promotional and network rivalries, several potential fights are being blocked off from taking place.

      it will end soon...

showtime now only does business with golden boy if im not mistaken and hbo works with all the other promoters with the biggest company being top rank.

however, i think top ranks biggest fighters will not be there in 2015.

      marquez is gonna retire soon.

pacquaio is gonna retire soon and his contract with top rank ends late 2014.

bradley is gonna leave top rank after fighting pacquaio in order to secure big fights.

top rank will become a smaller company. they will no longer have the marquee names to subsidise having other fighters on their shows to build their other fighters up.

Boxing has to be the most disfunctional of all sports and that's why it will never be a mainstream. Sad when a company like UFC is structured better than boxing. Boxing has been ruined by greed, corruption, and politics.

The only problem is you have the "King of Showtime" who swore he would never fight on Showtime, not willing to take the 1st step and make the biggest fight in boxing happen... It's a joke... And as long as you have a bomb like Schafer over there, nothing will happen!

This cold war sucks! I don't blame GBP, I blame Bob Arum. All anyone needs to do is read the ESPN article by Dan Rafael: "Blame Bob Arum for No Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight." The article says it all. We should be watching Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 3 by now. We thought we would never see MAyweather vs. Cotto, or Mayweather vs. Marquez, or Mayweather vs. Canelo, but we did! The fighters want to fight if given the chance.

its not GBP's fault theyve always tried to put the best fiters just compare pac-may undercards. dib vs gradovich (pac) garcia vs matt (may). GBP is reacting not acting with ego when you go shake someone's hand more than once and they turn away you're not gonna exactly gonna have a high opinion of them. GBP offered mares-donaire as an example and the answer was typical. They didnt charge paulie promotional fee for senchenko cuz he was only getting 300k like thats next level amazing.

Now thats my view from outside in im no industry outsider.

top rank fighters only fight top rank fighters, its a good business strategy but bad for the boxing fans.
