  • Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez Could Target Mikey Garcia After Mares

The rematch with Abner Mares is likely going to be the final fight at 126-pounds for WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs). 2013 was a big year for Gonzalez, who catapulted himself back in the spotlight with first round stoppage of previously undefeated Abner Mares.

Gonzalez is motivated to become a three division world champion and wants to make a move to super featherweight in 2014. He was scheduled to face Mares in a rematch on February 15th, but Mares withdrew on Monday with a rib injury. Gonzalez is waiting for a new date.

You can't say anything bad about Johnny Gonzalez, he's a great fighter and a man of a few words, he always goes in to fights and just does his job which is awesome of him. Wish him great luck and hope he's able to carry out his plans and embark on his super featherweight journey.

Yes but he also battles with himself as well as the opponent, he at times lacks confidence, when he chose not to capitalize on PDL's recklessness, he showed that. He really let that fight get away from him, in this case I think beating Mares the way he did will allow him to be more confident in the rematch, possibly win. I do like his skills though.

I'd love to see that fight.. it would be short, but Jhonny would leave it all in the ring. If it happens, I hope it takes place in Texas!
