  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin: Amir Khan Will Not Be Easy For Mayweather

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin disagrees with a lot of the critics. He says former champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) will not be an easy fight for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs).

There are ongoing discussions to finalize an opponent for Mayweather's scheduled return, on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the fight.

People keep pointing out the face that Khan has speed. Shane Mosley had a lot of speed against Vernon Forest and he still lost. What good is speed when you have defensive liabilities? What happens when Floyd starts to time his speed? If this were a showtime fight, id be all for it buts its not.

Mosley's speed is not the best example to use whenever we all watched him tag and hurt Mayweather.

I was clearly talking about Forrest vs Mosley. Khan could tag Mayweather and hurt him too, but Khan will get the same thing Mosley got, prob worse.

Mosley gassed, he was an old man in boxing terms coming off a year-plus lay-off. He was gassing against Mayorga two fights prior to FMJ and since FMJ he has lost 3 fights with 1 win and 1 draw.

I am 90% sure that Golovkin is Mayweather's nightmare stylistically. I don't think that Mayweather would want to face him. I would rather think that he is more likely to take the Pacquiao fight than the Golovkin one.

That being said, yes Khan can give Mayweather some Trouble. But Khan doesn't know anything about strategy in boxing. He is talented but doesn't know how to use his talent. Khan needs a Trainer that knows how to analyze Floyd's game.

Mayweather-Maidana would be more exciting in my opinion.
