Former champion Cristian Mijares (49-7-2, 24KOs) is really motivated to face WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (26-0-1, 15KOs) in 2014. Mijares is the mandatory challenger to the title.

Mijares started the year with a close split decision loss to Victor Terrazas in April. He then won his next two 2013 outings by knockout. Santa Cruz easily knocked out Terrazas in August to capture the WBC title.
