Comments Thread For: Kiko Martinez Very Motivated To Secure Hometown Win

Kiko Martínez (29-4, 21KOs), the junior featherweight world champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), has extra motivation to retain his title because his upcoming defense is taking place at Pabellon Esperanza Lag in Elche, Spain. Martinez will defend his title against mandatory challenger Jeffrey Mathebula (27-4-2, 14KOs) of South Africa.

It will be Martinez's first defense since capturing the title in August with an unexpected sixth round knockout of Jhonatan Romero at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City.

Why? He took the belt from the champion, and fighting his mandatory less than 3 months later. He´s doing things right.

      WAR KIKO!!!

Mathebula is going to have a massive height and reach advantage and I expect him to win, but big props to Kiko for immediately fighting his mandatory. Seems like most new "champions" these days find a way to take a cupcake defense or two after winning a belt. Also glad Kiko gets to fight in Spain for a change
