Comments Thread For: Gonzalez in Deep Training For Abner Mares Rematch

The featherweight world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Jhonny Gonzalez, is training very hard for his contracted rematch with Abner Mares. The fight is going to be televised on Showtime on February 15 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Back in August, González (55-8, 47 KOs) pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year when he knocked out the previously undefeated Mares (26-1-1, 14 KOs) in the first round.

I'm excited about this one. I like Gonzalez, love his style. Hopefully, Mares puts up a fight and it turns out to be a classic. Gonzalez is going to bring it so it's up to Mares now to be able to stay competitive. I still think Gonzalez will KO him, too big, too strong... It's Mares kryptonite IMO.

While I agree Mares was being a little too confident and it's understandable, that punch that Gonzalez threw could've fooled A LOT of people. It was a beauty.

Mares needs to take away Gonzalez left hook or the same thing will happen in the rematch.

problem is jhonny got a sick right hand aswell .. it was the first solid punch that landed cleanly that stunned mares early in the round..

i feel mares is just too small to be at 126,abners punche won't be felt that much by the much bigger guys and obviously mares will feel jhonny's punches,i thinkgonzalez ko's him again

Lets just hope there's no backstage shenanigans and Gonzales ain't paid off... Doubt it though. Idk why mares is taking this rematch so soon doesn't seem like that bright of an idea
