The 2014 season opener of ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” will have a 130-pound title fight between Argenis Mendez and Rances Barthelemy in the main event, supported by a co-feature bout pitting middleweight Caleb Truax against Derek Ennis.

The card will take place Jan. 3 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, according to a person involved with the card, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as the show has not yet been officially announced.

am i the only one that thinks Mendez vs Barthelemy should be a undercard of HBO Line up ... e****ially with it mightbeing Micky Garcia oppenent in the future be good to give them a bigger platform

Mendez's draw against Usmanee was such ****. Mendez clearly won that fight and got jobbed hard.

Man...I am 100 percent with you on this! But I think it goes back to something I have been saying about his manager Jose Nunez. His manager is the same as Guzman and it has been well known (aside from Guzman's weight issues) that this individual mismanaged Guzman's career big time and I feel like he is bringing Mendez nowhere fast! I wish someone close to Mendez would open his eyes because this kid is a great talent yet he is a champion headlining events at fnf. It's really sad if you ask me.

yes sir ... Mendez got skills smooth as hell .. i thought he dominated usmanee easliy 9 rounds ... and barthelemy actually has a fun coming forward style .. guzman mishandled his career but i heard jose nunez did do some slick **** i could be wrong.. Tyson promotions now got Mendez and with tyson being on hbo this past saturday you would think this fight is a perfect fit especially with mickey garcia as match for the winner ... idk horrible mistake by hbo this fight will be solid entertaining
