Comments Thread For: MacKinnon Has Emergency Surgery After TKO Defeat

Otorohanga-based professional boxer Daniel MacKinnon (21-8) is battling for his life following a brutal light heavyweight title fight in Hamilton as part of the Tua-Ustinov undercard.

MacKinnon, 30, was stopped in the 10th round against Robbie Berridge (21-1, 18KOs) on Saturday night in what was described as "brutal and bloody brawl".

He was taken to Waikato Hospital following the fight where he underwent emergency brain surgery.

He was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit on Sunday, according to a statement from his manager Ken Reinsfield.

What I hate most is fans who complain if a fighter retires on his stool, throws in the towel, or drops to his knees

I hate those people with a passion and want them to walk into traffic

I feel the same way except the traffic part lol, but that bothers me a lot.

Damn... I streamed that fight.. MacKinnon showed a lot of heart to get up from that liver shot and not many fighters would have got back up after getting sent through the ropes like that.. When the ref stopped it, I thought it was a little early, but now I'm like.. The ref probably saved his life..

Harsh realities of the sport we all know and love. Every time a fighter steps inside the ring he/she puts their life on the line.
