It's my belief that Vargas was an excellent fighter but a bit short of being a great fighter and 154 was his proper fighting weight. I think GGG is a great fighter and would KO Vargas at any point in Vargas's career at 154 or 160. I think those that think GGG will be defeated and exposed are in for a long futile wait.
Was Vargas a lucky bum, decent, good, or great pugilist??

I am getting use to a different Computer and quoted joseph5620 by accident. very good figther who ran into a very good / great landscape at 154. huge guy, good power, and a complete package by his early 20's when he was able to still make jr MW.
i think he'd beat canelo pretty easily, for example.Comment

No he was good at boxing, in fact, very good.
It didn't absolutely ruin his career but it definitely damaged him a lot.Silly myth is silly.
After Chavez, Taylor moved up to welterweight where he once again became a world champion. The reason his career didn't pan out too well after that was because he was too small for the division, not because Julio Cesar Chavez ruined his career.
You guys put too much stock into 'Legendary Nights.'Comment

No, you're thinking of Lucas Matthysse. By the way, what happened to that avatar of you trying to squeeze yourself into that group picture with him and his crew? Did you only just realise how utterly ridiculous you looked?Comment

A thousand nations of the Feroz empire descended upon his enemies.
His hooks bloated out the sun!
His roar was long and loud!

A very good fighter who fought till he collapsed. Left everything in the ring and always gave you your money's worth. I wish allot of fighters would lay it all on the line like he did, he was all about the moment and not the future. His problems were roids and a back problem, later his enemy was food! Still remember his fat azz fighting Mayorga on PPV!!Comment

Fernando Vargas was one of the most exciting prospects I ever covered, hard hitting, vicious in the finish and supremely gifted. Sadly, even as he won his world championship it was obvious he may never live up to his full potential. The celebrity life style was getting to him and he had started to believe his own hype, he believed he could take inhuman punishment and still keep coming forward. He gave up on his boxing and just stood and traded with guys who just hit too damn hard.
Vargas' worst enemy was Vargas...sadly.Comment
