  • Comments Thread For: Wood Furious Murray Fight Off Due To Mosley-Mundine

According to the Daily Telegraph, the middleweight fight between Martin Murray and Garth Wood, set for December 11th in Sydney, has been canceled due to the rescheduled date between Shane Mosley and Anthony Mundine, now taking place on November 27th at the All Phones Arena in Homebush, Australia.

Mosley-Mundine was scheduled to take place a few weeks ago and then canceled at the last minute when Mosley withdrew due to a financial dispute with promoter Vlad Wharton, who failed to pay the former champion the remainder of his purse, $700,000.

While I sympathise with Garth & Martin he's a bit off the mark calling Murray a "genuine world champion" & "No. 1".

It's a decent Commonwealth title fight between a bloke about 9th in the world & a bloke about 30th.

Agreed. To call an interim alphabet trinket-holder a "world champion" is beyond a joke. Wood was a patsy for Murray anyway, having done nothing to earn a legit title shot.

Mundine - Mosley is the fight that would come out of a blender if I mixed old dog crap in with some vaseline. Murray-Wood getting canceled over that is a sad day for real fans of boxing.

Well most people thought Murray beat Martinez so he is a genuine world champion unless you don't rate Martinez highly?

Most people? Not sure of that. Was a close fight. Thought it was a draw at worst for Martinez. But calling Murray a "champion" is like saying Macklin is a world champion (most thought he beat Sturm), or that Campillo is still the WBA or IBF light heavy champion ( he clearly best Shumenov and Cloud). The reality is Murray didn't get the decision in a close fight and an interim alphabet belt is nothing more than a chance for the alphabet ****s to extort extra "title" fees. An alphabet belt doesn't makes you a "champion"

So how come Murray got a visa (if he did) when Richard Towers couldn't?

May it had something to do with the fact that Towers is a convicted violent criminal and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Aussie government looking out for there people, would never get a USA visa either....
