Comments Thread For: Photo: Canelo, Schaefer Set 2014 Return Dates

As reported earlier, former junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) sat down with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and finalized three dates for his 2014 run. The boxer announced, on his twitter page, that he will fight on March 8, July 26 and November 22. He states that all three fights will be carried on Showtime Pay-Per-View and the March opponent will be announced in the coming weeks. Canelo will return from the first loss of his career, record-breaking twelve round majority decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 14th.

Great to hear that Canelo will be fighting three times next year, if it were four even better as long as his competition is against top level opposition.

Out of those 3 dates I wonder which one he will actually take a risk in... If any. Probably the last date. If he loses his first fight back then say buh bye to his other two.

Canelo should be feeling like ***** right now...look at him. He must be thinking " espero que me hechen unos de peso liviano"..poor guy didnt have a chance vs money..lmao.. and i doubt he will fight either lara or cotto in the next fight.. knowing gbp, his first fight will be mathysse prolly or khan.. u know someone little in weight.. where he can blow up in weight and bully them. Canelo and all his believers are in for another wake up call when or if he ever fights lara, cotto or martinez. Period

The same Lara that went life and death with Angulo or the Lara that went life and death with vanes. What the hell has Lara done to make u think canelo is scared of him??

You should ask that same question to all the so called top fighters that like to pretend he doesn' even exist.

The next opponent is going to be Victor Ortiz or Carlos Molina... (checks Boxrec's Lt Middleweight rankings to discover that Molina is already anticipated to be the opponent for March)

The winner of Ortiz-Molina was the logical next opponent, since the IBF put a stop to that, either one would be the logical choice. Molina has the alphabet belt and the ranking, but his style is going to make for a terrible fight that Canelo's going to win (despite NSB idiots thinking the contrary). The Ortiz fight would be great... possible FOTY candidate. Ortiz has superior talent (speed and power), but he still hasn't been able to defeat a physically stronger opponent and Canelo is physically stronger. The Mayweather fight was a learning experience; the main lesson being that he shouldn't be naive enough to think that he can try to outbox everyone.

If Canelo can make it through Molina/Ortiz and Cotto (or the remaining Molina/Ortiz if Cotto chooses to got he Martinez route), Lara (if he can defeat Trout) will be the opponent in the fall.
