Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Wilder-Stiverne For WBC Title, Then Klitschko

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is looking to match Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30KOs) against Bermane Stiverne for the vacant WBC heavyweight title. Based on Vitali's recent announcement that he plans to be a candidate in the presidential elections in 2015, Schaefer believes Vitali will no longer fight and the belt will become vacant. Vitali has been inactive since late 2012. Stiverne (23-1-1, 20KOs) is the mandatory challenger to the title. After the fight with Stiverne, Schaefer wants to match Wilder against WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko.

I hope they don't think Wilder will have an easy time with Stiverne because he barely fights.

If Wilder does win though, this is a hell of a canyon leap in competition.
Stiverne should at least get a tune-up in so he's not out for a year

Stiverne is a massive step up for Wilder. He hasn't even fought a top 75 HW yet. Firtha is a caddy, Lol. I would like to see him fight someone like Banks first, at the least, but if he feels ready..... Good for him

That's a crazy risk. Stiverne is in a different league to Firtha, Audley etc

Yep, Vitali was waiting for Haye-Fury alright.

WOW! Whatever Schaefer is smoking, I want some! I'm in shock that Schaefer is talking about Wilder becoming undisputed heavyweight world champion like it is even remotely possible.

Wilder has never fought anyone that has talent. Stiverne is a massive step up in itself and I expect Wilder to suffer a heavy loss if those two ever meet.

Schaefer is talking about Wilder sprinting before he has even started crawling SMFH

Massive risk because we don't even know if Wilder has stamina and he has a resume full of bums, he needs way more experience

but i'll give him huge credit it if he takes it and wins

Yeah they've brought him up like a snail, I really don't see why they're throwing him straight into a title fight when he hasn't even fought a guy who boxes for a living yet. They've already brought him up slowly, it can only help to let him fight a top 75 guy first then top 50, maybe top 15-25 and then Stiverne, I don't see how it can hurt. IMO
