The World Boxing Council wants to clarify publicly and events surrounding the status of former world champion Cristian Mijares in our organization.
We are very sorry to read some statements that seek to distort the facts and ignore what has actually happened. Cristian Mijares fought for the vacant WBC super bantamweight world championship, against Victor "Vikingo" Terrazas, losing a very close fight.
The WBC agreed, by vote, that Cristian Mijares be provided with a new opportunity for the title. The routine practice of our organization is to allow the new champion to make a voluntary defense prior to the mandatory, which is compulsory after winning a vacant title. [Click Here To Read More]
