  • Comments Thread For: Chisora vs. Pulev in Play For EBU Title Showdown?

Bulgarian heavyweight Kubrat Pulev, 18-0, is now the mandatory challenger for EBU champion Dereck Chisora, 18-4. No date has been set for a purse bid. Chisora was the mandatory challenger for Pulev when he held the EBU title but Kubrat relinquished the title just ahead of purse bids to fight a final IBF eliminator against Tony Thompson on August 24. Pulev won but despite that victory it appears to be a long wait to before there will be a showdown against the mighty Wladimir Klitschko - and a fight against Chisora thus makes sense. Kubrat had to wait almost a year from winning the first IBF eliminator (vs Alexander Ustinov) to the second.

Huh? This doesn't make any sense. I'm all for Chisora-Pulev and I wanted to see that fight when Pulev was EBU champ but surely at this point this fight is not happening? Pulev was EBU champ already and Chisora was his mandatory but from what I understand Pulev dropped his EBU belt to fight Thompson to officially become Wlad's IBF mandatory. Why would Pulev backtrack to a European title when he's Wlad's mandatory- Wlad isn't vacating any belts so surely Wlad-Pulev will happen in 2014

      I dunno

not sure how IBF rules are but I guess if he doesn't lose mandatory status to Wlad this could be a "stay busy" fight if the Wlad fight won't be for a while, but it would be a hell of a stay busy fight and very risky lol

It'd be a "money" fight for Pulev. You could probably make the case that he'd likely be paid more for a show at Wembley arena or the Copperbox against Del than being a Klitschko opponent.

But as you say, surely Pulev has his eyes on Wlad's title?

Ooo, I like this fight. Risky though. Del Boy is tricky.

Chisora beats Pulev, i don't think Pulev knows how to throw anything other than a 1-2.

                    I hope this happens....

probably Chisora would replace Pulev as Klitschko's mandatory if he wins.
