Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Copper Box Bill, Smith Bros, More

After recent heartache in my office, it was pleasing to rebound with a more productive week.

My maiden promotion at the splendid Copper Box Arena at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford proved a success with a large audience generating a brilliant atmosphere.

The event served as a fitting final tribute to my late matchmaker Dean Powell, who put together several of the matches before tragically passing away earlier this month.

Nine of the 11 bouts lasted the scheduled course – evidence of Dean’s incontestable ability to deliver competitive bouts that permitted my young talents to learn, develop and advance. [Click Here To Read More]

I was at the Copper Box, I thought the atmosphere was poor and the arena was about half full at best. And just like Frank's Wembley bill I had to leave before the main event to get the last train home or face a £70 taxi on top of the £200 I had already spent on tickets, hardly acceptable. Andy Ayling's pathetic press release using the Michael Watson tragedy for brownies points is also tempting me to never go to any future Queensberry shows.

ND1997uk: Agreed. However Frank Warren doesn't have to catch the train & couldn't care less about anyone apart from #1!

I don't understand who wins when you make it go on so late? Is it for TV?

Agreed, it was a farce of a show. For Warren to call it a success is a joke. The atmosphere was ridiculously flat, and as you say many people left before the main event!

Not sure what press release you mean?

Flat wasn't the word, Needed some music inbetween rounds, no card payments in venue was a big mistake, westfield was to far a walk for a cash machine, when delboy finished, i was getting hyped for main event, but they brought out a pro debut at 11.30pm... people were leaving all around to catch trains, by the time saunders vs ryder came on, there was 4 people let in the row I was sitting. The venue was nice, is a perfect size, but come on, the event as a whole was poorly planned and left paying spectators missing the main event... one guy sittin behind me said he has been there since it opened at 5.30pm... don't know how he got back to croydon after main event!
