Comments Thread For: HBO's Grasp of Cotto Fight Raises Industry Eyebrows

Several industry sources have advised BoxingScene.com of the eye-opening details in relation to Miguel Cotto's upcoming fight being secured by HBO.

According to parties with knowledge of the details, the HBO brass approached promoter Lou DiBella with the idea of securing Miguel Cotto for a 2014 showdown with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

DiBella, who has a good relationship with Cotto's adviser Gaby Penagaricano, was informed that Cotto was likely going to fight on Showtime in October - but the Puerto Rican star hit a roadblock in terms of the money that Showtime was willing to offer up for his next fight. Very very odd stuff, seems like Arum is forcing HBO to buy this fight. 3.2 mil for this fight is insane

Cotto is really Boss, the only person smart enough to play showtime and HBO against eachother, Showtime aint want to give him big money for a easy touch so he ran to a HBO who is desperate for stars, then probably runs back to showtime for a Canelo match, since he didnt get locked into a long term deal, pure genius.....

        1. Why is Andre Ward pissed? When's the last time he filled up MSG, oh that's right he hasn't.

        2. Why is anyone pissed off? Cotto has made HBO millions on top of millions, 1.5 buys with Floyd, 1.25 million with Manny, 600k with Margarito II... I mean seriously all these fools need to stop *****ing Cotto brings more than Ward and Martinez combined in one fight than they have their entire career.

HBO equals downward spiral in boxing. Use to really enjoy this network, but the new direction needs to be reassessed.

Lets see if all the posters who b1tched, whined and moaned about Al Haymon fighters making a ton of money for crap fights do the same thing here when a Bob Arum fighter is doing so.

Arum actually builds his fighters though - Cotto has earned his money.

Haymon fighters, take Berto for example.....
