    Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo's smart pressure will be the difference

    NEW YORK — It’s almost as if Oscar De La Hoya is getting a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

    That’s how much a Saul “Canelo” Alvarez upset Sept. 14 in Las Vegas would mean to De La Hoya both personally and professionally. Throughout the buildup toward the biggest fight of Alvarez’s career, De La Hoya has made sure to relay as much invaluable advice to the young Mexican star as possible.

    The 40-year-old De La Hoya regularly advises Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) to avoid making the same mistakes that cost “The Golden Boy” when he dropped a split decision to Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) in May 2007. [Click Here To Read More]

    ... "Smart pressure" means "pressure in spurts".

      Canelo could win if it was at 154, sorry oscar, but floyd had to have yet another stipulation in order to sign the contrct . Those two pounds will show right away the drained canelo. The kids mind will wanna do this and that , and his body wont allow him.

      152 = drained canelo

        If Canelo does win it'll be because his size,will,and mental fortitude.I highly doubt his pressure along would make the difference because that is pretty much what every Mayweather opponent does.

          Can you at least watch the fight before you start screaming drained? 152 might actually help Canelo in the long run because he's not beating Floyd weighing 173 on the night of the fight. We know that for sure.

                Floyd had to have stipulations. If and when floyd wins he gets 30 percent credit

                  ... Or: "smart pressure" might mean "go for the kill" as the bell rings. If can't finish him early, forget about the later rounds -- they don't matter anymore...

                    Sounds like a built in excuse to me. Don't get me wrong I don't like the catch weight, but how is 152 gonna drain Canelo when he weighed 153 at his last weigh in and ballooned to 172 after he re hydrated.
