Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Next Foe Should Sorted Out By Mid-September

According to manager Egas Klimas, the next opponent for WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (22-0-1, 20KOs) should be determined by mid-September. Earlier this month in Wales, Kovalev scored the biggest win of his career with a four round destruction of previously undefeated Nathan Cleverly. Kovalev's first defense should be televised by HBO. The top contender to his title is EBU champion Juergan Braehmer, but it hasn't been determined if Braehmer will take that challenge.

Then WBO would put Juergen Braehmer in front of Kovalev, and HBO is supposed to televise this?

Matching Kovalev with guys like Braehmer would help top dogs (like B-Hop) say that Kovalev is irrelevant, not tested, a.s.o.

I suspect that the Brit fighters had enough of Kovalev for the time being.

I can see it being someone like Fonfara. I also heard that Eleider Alvarez is a possibility.

It won't be Hopkins and it probably won't be Cloud or Stevenson, so there aren't many exciting opponents at 175 for Kovalev to face next.

Since the two Russian killers emerged (i.e. Golovkin and Kovalev) the divisions from middleweight to light heavyweight are strangely silent.

Lol Braehmer won't take the fight. He backed out of a fight recently just a week or so away from the fight date. Can't remember who it was? Shumenov? Cleverly?
