  • Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux Vows: I'm The Champ, Style Won't Change!

Guillermo Rigondeaux's future has been in limbo since his April 13th career defining victory over Nonito Donaire. The WBA/WBO super bantamweight king was offered a return date of September 28th, potentially against Chris Avalos, but turned the fight down because he wasn't given enough time to hold a full training camp. On a recent edition of BoxingScene Radio, the Cuban said that he hopes to return to the ring in November.

"I am ready to get in the ring now and start training full speed. I should be ready to go by November. At the time (the fight was offered), they didn't give me enough notice. As a champion I should be given the proper time to prepare for a fight," Rigondeaux explained.

Leave Arum after the two fights, GBP will at least put you on stacked cards

Welcome to America, the land of capitalism. Being a champ doesn't mean you get special treatment and are exempt from the laws of supply and demand. If nothing is changed, you'll be stuck in the same ****ty situation you're in forever. Gotta be more flexible.

I don't know how some people repeat the same excuses that Arum said about his style. The style is not his problem, because he had the style before and nocked 8 from 12. His style is not a problem because Nonito didn't engage him and in the last round Nonito ran for his life and face. The main Rigondeaux sin is to destroy Arums and HBo cash cow easely and showed to the world how those champions don't even know how to box. He destroyed the mith about a Amateur being able to destroy a professional. He is fighting against the system showing that not all the "champions" are the best and instead are being created by those promoters. As he said, for him would be better losing in April 13 instead of winning schooled the protected Arums boxer.
I can assure that Arum has a problem with Rigo, because he is showing all the crab in this business sport, showing how they manipulate the fights and create the boxers. Arum didn't want him leave also because recently extended his contract, but also Rigo is a pain for him because is destroying all his appearance.

I don't know why you say it like that's something to be proud of, being the best is no longer enough in boxing you have to either be a punching bag or a controversial wh0re outside of the ring to get attention, how is that good for the sport?. Rigondeaux situation is just a symptom of the reality tv generation...sad stuff indeed.

Why should he change his style? it has won him 2 gold medals and a lineal title, that style allowed him to make a top 5 p4p fighter in his prime look like a club fighter

so don't cry when you get no love or big money
skills get respect and wins, but not attention if there's no drama
Rigo is quite capable of kicking more ass than he does
doesn't really have to flat out change his style, just amp it up
use the skill to take the opponent, not the life outta the fight

Also he is the real truth in boxing. The others Showmans like Nonito is a fake, with prepared oponents. Rigo showed that this champions are like the wrestling fake fights, where you see the guys bleeding and fighting and everything is fake. For someones this is good, for me I want a real and truth fight.
