Same for Showtime, their best fight of the year was FNF caliber Figueroa Arakawa (mismatch on paper), on a card headlined by Berto Karass, another quality FNF fight. Their second best fight was Lara vs non top 10 Angulo. Not deemed competitive in advance, and seen by 450k viewers.

Wish I could give HBO any credit. They're putting on the matchups they can at this point. In fact; they're putting on matches they wouldn't have at different points in the past. It's called desperation.

They'll be showing the Mayweather-Alvarez card and other big matchups, even though the boxers are not Russian.
who paid the fighter's purse last night? russian TV? no. HBO bought the fight, and russian TV would pay a fee to broadcast it.

they buy the right to broadcast a fight hbo or showtime buys, which is exactly what i said, and different from what you're proposing. IE you're wrong.

it is not a russian promotion. it's an american venture that the russians are allowed to broadcast for a fee. it's similar to what HBO did for a couple of vitali fights, when they played second fiddle to a german broadcast in german primetime, and showed a live fight saturday afternoon.

is mayweather - alvarez a russian fight? in russian primetime? put on and paid for by russian TV? no. it's put together as a showtime PPV, and the russian network pays a minimal fee to broadcast it and play second fiddle.

some people hating on HBO cause the ydont have mayweather or all the Golden Boy fighter, but they still got a strong stable of fighters. Now they are diversifying and including a worldwide audience.

Still got martinez, golovkin, donaire, pacquaio, rios, bradley, alvarado, marquez, cotto, chavez jr, provodnikov, now kovalev and all the other europeans. Strong stable.

Golden boy/Showtime has matthyse, garcia, mayweather, alvarez, maidana, quillin, broner, peterson, trout etc.

Both pretty solid, although id say golden boy has the more hyped matchups although look at HBOs matchups so far, Prov/Bradley, Rios/Alvarado, Froch/Kessler, Gaele/Barker... so far so good

I think Stevenson-Kovalev would be a GREAT matchup.

Showtime has unquestionably been showing the better fights this year.

Both networks have put on similar type of fights.

Neither is definitively better. HBO just has stronger viewership
