Huge upset win for Karass, who avg'd 34 landed/117 thrown per round. Karass landed 40% of his power shots (28 of 71 per round) vs. the game Berto, who fought most of the fight with just a left hand. Berto landed 42% of his power shots- 12 of 28 per round. Punches / round != punches landed != quality of punches.

It was evident in the fight that Berto punched far harder. Sadly for Berto he was unable to keep his composure and kept loading up / jumping until he wildly injured himself.

Soto Karass' stamina was something else in that fight. Just when he looked hurt or fading, he'd bite down and start throwing again.

Also Berto should look at the tape and realise the difference early body work made in that fight. Soto Karass was digging under those high elbows of Berto from round 1. Berto didn't start throwing to the body until half way through the fight, and even then it was on occasion.

With a tough fighter like Soto Karass, it is critical that you throw to the body. Maidana did and he got Soto Karass out of there. Berto didn't and it was him that wilted late on. Of course, Maidana actually showed some defense. Boy was Berto open to hit in this fight.

EDIT: I had it 5 rounds-a-piece going into the 11th (same as 2 judges, it seems). The 11th round was a huge one for the [moot] scorecards. Karass was otherwise winning it but got dropped; it was a 3 point swing (10-9 to 8-10).
