Filipino bantamweight John Mark Apolinario is ready for his title fight against WBA champion Koki Kameda on July 23.
His manager, Dr. Rajan Yraola told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard as they were checking in at their hotel on Wednesday night that Apolinario had no weight problems and was prepared to take on the tough Japanese boxer, one of three fighting Kameda brothers.
Dr. Rajan told us they have a game-plan on how to beat Kameda but conceded that while Apolinario is a good boxer he doesn’t have a big punch and they are hoping “to win on points if we get lucky.”
That’s because when Koki Kameda won the world light flyweight title in his first attempt, beating Venezuela’s Jose Landaeta in Yokohama, the Japanese won despite being dropped in the first round and being dominated in the last two rounds.
In fact the Tokyo Broadcasting System received 50,000 calls complaining about the controversial decision on August 2, 2006 although in a rematch Kameda out-boxed Landaeta to retain his title. [Click Here To Read More]
