Comments Thread For: Kell Brook's Father: Kell is Going To Stay at 147-Pounds

Kell Brook, 29-0 (19), and Carson Jones, 35-9-3 (25), hit the scales in Hull earlier today ahead of Saturday's ****y rematch at the city’s Craven Park Stadium on an Eddie Hearn-promoted bill. Both camps requested a catchweight of 150lbs when making the contest, but when the limit was pushed up to 152 earlier this week it led to fevered speculation over Brook’s ability to get himself down to the welterweight division for future fights. This conjecture failed to take into account the American’s role in all of this, Jones has not hit the welterweight limit since his loss to Brook. The drama's now over, though. Brook, 27, weighed in at 151lbs earlier today; Carson, 26, tipped the scales at 151.75lbs; the fight is scheduled for ten-threes.

I only read quotes from boxers now. The writers here seem to write a lot of tabloid level stuff these days.

I wrote the article and the line. It isn't tabloid journalism as far as I can tell, that'd be applicable if I was trying to be sensationalist.

I won't apologise for writing the line, but am sorry that you found it offensive.

Who, at the Boxingscene editorial level, allowed this article to be published? As an atheist, that lowblow to the audience of at least a billion Catholics leaves me flabbergasted. As a strong believer in freedom of speech, to read this kind of bigotry on a boxing website I have followed for several years now forces me to reconsider my membership of what I thought was a credible site. This isn't just shocking and deserving of condemnation - self-discrediting is an understatement.

I went to Catholic school and live with a Christian. I went through all the rites of passage, but later lapsed. Is the remark a condemnation of Catholicism? Not really, as I could have gone in a different direction. The Catholic church does not advocate contraception, that was the crux of the remark. Similar to 'Every ***** is sacred'. If I was using it to attack, I'd point out to the sexual disease stats in countries that use only this method, or something along those lines.

If you wants to be morally outraged then that's OK, but I'm not accepting criticism from people with USA = Fat in their sig line or an image of someone having sex with a pig. Not to mention the casual misogyny of these boards or the general lack of respect afforded to fighters.

As the Bible said:'Physician, heal thyself.'

                    Hey everyone, here's an idea?

Why don't we all just stfu?

If you're that insecure about your faith and it's as some would say, "medieval" views on contraception, go away. Go away and have a long hard think about your life.

                    Good article.
